A better working day for your riders (and why it matters to you)

Clear trips, stops in order, one-tap directions and fewer calls: how a simpler day helps you keep reliable riders longer.

A good rider is hard to find. A good rider who stays is worth a lot more. They know the lanes, they know your regular customers, and they handle a difficult situation without calling you.

When good riders leave, it is rarely only about pay. It is about the daily grind: being phoned every ten minutes, being told the wrong address, being blamed when something goes wrong. A simpler day is one of the cheapest ways to keep the people you already have.

Here is what a better day looks like for a rider, and why it helps you.

Why good riders leave#

  • Confusing instructions. The address arrives in a voice note in the middle of traffic.

  • Too many calls. Every few minutes the shop wants an update.

  • Unfair workload. One rider seems to always get the long trips.

  • Waiting around. Standing at the counter with no idea when the order will be ready.

  • Being blamed for mistakes that were not theirs, like a wrong address.

Each of these is a daily irritation. None is big on its own. Together they are why a rider starts looking for another job.

Trips arrive on the phone, with a notification#

With MiniDrop, a rider does not wait for a message. When you approve a route, the rider gets a notification on their phone in the MiniDrop rider app, and the trip is there, ready to start. The rider app is for Android phones.

No voice notes, no scribbled addresses, no "sorry, can you say that again?". The trip is on the screen, where the rider can look at it again whenever needed.

Stops already in order, directions in one tap#

The trip shows all the stops in the order they should be visited. For each stop, the rider sees the customer's name, address and phone number. One tap opens the directions.

The rider does not have to work out the best order while packing the bag, and does not have to type an address into a map. They mark each order as picked up and delivered as they go. If something goes wrong, they can mark it as not delivered or on hold and say why, instead of ringing the shop.

Fewer decisions mean less stress, especially on busy evenings.

No more arguing over who goes where#

When the owner decides by hand, every rider wonders why they got that trip. Arguments follow, and some riders feel the owner has favourites.

With MiniDrop, orders are shared between the online riders by the same planning every time. It takes into account how many orders each rider can carry. You look at the routes, and you can change them where you know better, but the starting point is not anybody's opinion. That takes a lot of heat out of the day.

A workload everyone can see#

On your side, a single screen shows who is free, who is on a trip, and which orders each rider carries. If one rider has far more than another, you see it and can adjust. Fair sharing is much easier when it is visible.

Riders feel the difference. They know that the work is spread by a plan, not by who happened to answer the phone first.

What this means for you#

  • Less turnover. Riders who are not frustrated stay.

  • Less training. Fewer new faces to teach the lanes and the customers.

  • Fewer mistakes. Clear stops and directions mean fewer wrong turns.

  • A calmer shop. Fewer calls from riders means more time for customers.

Frequently asked questions#

Do my riders need to learn something difficult?

No. The app shows a trip, the stops in order and a few buttons to mark each order. Most riders learn it in one practice trip.

Does the app use a lot of data or battery?

It uses a phone's location and data while a rider is working, like any map app. Ask riders to keep their phones charged and carry a power bank on long shifts.

Will riders feel watched?

Be open about it. Explain that you see where a rider is on a trip so you can help customers and keep trips fair. Treat it as help, not surveillance.

Should I pay riders differently with the app?

That is up to you. Many shops keep their usual pay and find that riders finish more deliveries in the same hours, so everyone gains.

Think about what your riders put up with in a normal week, and pick the one thing to fix first.
